Why Trinity Square?

“An oasis of tranquility, set against the bustle of its Bermondsey surroundings…”

Why the name, Trinity Square?

We dart through Trinity Square, SE1 (now Trinity Church Square), every day on our way to get the Tube, heading all around London to meet people. An oasis of tranquility, set against the bustle of its Bermondsey surroundings, in contrast with the stark modernity of the City’s skyscrapers which tower in the background.

Look around you and you could be in late Georgian London, of black iron railings and tall elegant houses. Look up, and you’ll see the glass towers of finance and you’ll know that you’re still in contemporary London. But Trinity Square, like the capital city itself, is layered.

Stop in the middle of the square and you’ll probably hear the beauty of the London Philharmonic Orchestra rehearsing at The Henry Wood Hall in the centre. See the statue of King Alfred outside? Long thought to be medieval, it is actually part-Roman, adapted and reworked in later centuries and originally a piece of a giant three metre statue of the goddess Minerva, which stood at a nearby temple in her name which was discovered some time back. In the streets around the square, some of London’s earliest Roman remains are often dug up: finds like bone dice, gladiator amulets and dolphin brooches, the stuff of everyday life going back all the way to the first century, when Roman Londinium begun. This is old, old London, and something of all that history gives a sense of endurance, of values from the past carrying forward.

Trinity Square is regularly used in film and television productions as a set location. It has featured in everything from period costume dramas, to gritty contemporary crime series, where the contrast between London old and new can be easily captured on camera. Most recently, it became the Second World War London backdrop for a major production by one of the streamers, directed and produced by Hollywood royalty, who we stood and watched as they filmed on set right here.

Trinity Square has a vibe: a sense of enduring values, tradition meeting modernity and creativity being ever-present. This appealed to us when we wanted to find a name for our business. Trinity Square Advisory hopefully embodies those essential characteristics.
